Role Model Movement is a mentoring program that guides young inner-city males to pursue a life greater than their surroundings and past.
Role Model Movement is a leadership class of African Americans that mentors and inspires the next generation to be leaders in their race and in the world. We advocate the pursuit of education, literary arts, music, sports, and active community involvement as we encourage African American males to become directly involved in social change as they change their current realities. Our goal is to empower underprivileged black youth to rise above their circumstances, while embracing their culture.
A lack of motivation will cause people to remain passive, even where opportunity exists. Black teens are joining gangs because they have no healthy outlets that encompass their interests. Role Model Movement strives to provide the opportunities, culture, and creative outlets that are lacking to enable and motivate youth to continue their education and become positive, contributing members to society, their families, and future generations.
Role Model Movement was founded so I could pass along the same positive influences that changed my life. I was a young, impoverished black male with little or no opportunities. Had it not been for the influence of a few positive black men in my life, I would have blamed a lack of opportunities on my environment and not pursued a productive and rewarding life. My organization is based on the belief that everyone has a responsibility to the growth and success of our youth.
